Shelters
The Good Samaritan Shelter provides safe, comfortable housing for men, women, and women with children experiencing homelessness in the greater Phoenixville and Ephrata areas. Our work is based on Christian principles and though we gladly accept people of all faiths, we ascribe God’s power to help our residents through their struggles and to allow us to help them as best as we can. The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us to love our neighbors by taking care of their physical and emotional needs. We believe that God loves the poor and those experiencing homelessness and we strive to serve them by helping them get back on their feet.

The mission of the Project HOME community is to empower adults, children, and families to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty, to alleviate the underlying causes of poverty, and to enable all of us to attain our fullest potential as individuals and as members of the broader society. We strive to create a safe and respectful environment where we support each other in our struggles for self-esteem, recovery, and the confidence to move toward self-actualization.

Opportunity House has been helping the homeless population of our area since November 1984 and has expanded profoundly since then. In addition to offering an emergency shelter that served nearly 500 people and 96,547 meals last year, we offer a 24/7 childcare and learning center, services from the Children's Alliance Center, assistance for veterans, and reuse and recycle services that reinvest funds back into our agency in order to further support our mission and services.

Safe Harbor’s goal reaches beyond just feeding the homeless and providing housing. We seek to understand each person’s background, define short term action plans designed to address his or her challenges and needs, and monitor his or her progress. Our goal is to help rebuild lives and life skills, reestablish self-esteem, and help people overcome the issues that prevent them from leading independent, productive lives. Safe Harbor is a non-profit charitable organization whose mission is to provide housing, food and access to support services in a structured environment for homeless single men and homeless single women in Chester County.

Catholic Harvest Food Pantry operates one of the largest food pantries in York County. Our pantry is unique in our area in that we are the only pantry to distribute food five nights a week. Distribution also takes places on the first and third Thursday mornings and on the fourth Monday and fourth Friday of each month from 3:45-4:45pm. There are typically more than 700 families each month who use our services and it seems our numbers grow each year. Many of the families who come to us are working but do not make enough to keep food on their table. In addition to food distribution we also provide clothing and miscellaneous household items. We will continue to develop and offer meaningful services to meet the needs of the families we serve.
